Toronto's fashion-forward parents can outfit their tots through tweens in luxe European designer duds at Gretchen & Co., a boutique in the North Toronto neighborhood of Forest Hill Village.
Owner Silke Rampf has handpicked a collection that would be hard to find elsewhere in Canada, including Bonpoint Paris, Stella McCartney Kids from Great Britain, Scotch & Soda Amsterdam Culture, and the multinational Desigual, which has a flagship store in Barcelona and has a Swiss founder.
For babies, shoppers can choose cute sweaters, sweatpants, dresses, even tiny booties in pink or gray. Designer children's clothing includes Scotch Shrunk, Wonderboy, Sco and Desigual brands for boys in sizes to fit ages 2 through 14. Girls' designer brands include Bellerose, Ella Moss, Rbelle and So Nikki, in sizes up to 12 years. Accessories include headbands, scarves, lunchboxes, raincoats, even a cozy-warm Appaman hat with fur trim. The Toronto kids' clothing store also has outerwear by Canada Goose.
While the designer touches, bright, charming colors and luxury fabrics make even everyday outfits extraordinary, parents also can help their children find just the right clothing for once-in-a-lifetime special occasions, whether a First Communion, recital dress or holiday or birthday party. Special-event consultation is available.
Moms suffering from a little fashion envy won't be left out, either. The kids' clothing store has women's designer apparel, too, so no dreaded "mom jeans" will be necessary for the Yummy Mummy set.
Rampf, a dentist who moved to Canada from Germany in 2005 and has young children herself, has also designed clothing for the store, which includes a play area for kids and an espresso bar for parents.
The Toronto kids' clothing store is at 424 Eglinton Ave. W., near Eglinton Park. Its phone number is 416-482-2302. The designer kids' clothing shop is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Online shopping is available at gretchenandco.com.
